This place of worship was the setting for several apparitions of the Virgin Mary, and therefore constitutes a very important place of Marian pilgrimage, welcoming nearly 2.5 million visitors each year from all over the world. Consecrated in 1815, its history is closely linked to that of Saint Catherine Labouré and the Miraculous Medal.

Moreover, if you come to visit this chapel, you will see above the apse a statue of the Virgin and Child with a verse from the Catholic hymn "Ave Stella Maris". Inside the church, Catherine Labouré's glass coffin is on display, attesting to the miracles of the Miraculous Medal.

THE MIRACULOUS MEDAL

The true Miraculous Medal has very specific characteristics. On the front side, on the obverse, the Blessed Virgin is
represented in the center, as she appeared the second time to Saint Catherine Labouré. Standing and haloed, in a
gesture of openness and gift, the rays of light emanating from his hands correspond to the graces granted to the faithful.

Placed on the terrestrial globe, she tramples on a serpent, symbol of Satan. Mary thus brings her protection to
believers carrying the medal. The date "1830" commemorates the year of the Marian apparitions to Saint Catherine
Plowed. The whole is surrounded by the prayer "O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you"

On the reverse side, the center of the medal presents the Cross of Jesus, surmounting the initial of Mary. These two elements are intertwined, recalling the bond between Christ and his Blessed Mother. Below, two united and bruised hearts are present. The one on the left, belonging to Christ, wears the crown of thorns. The one on the right, belonging to the Blessed Virgin, is pierced with a sword. These two hearts therefore represent the sufferings endured and the acceptance of the sacrifice for Jesus and Mary.

All of these elements are surrounded by twelve stars, symbolizing the apostles and the unity of the Church.
